Police responded to a call of a shooting in progress at a home in San Antonio, Texas, on Saturday, March 27, arriving to find a homeowner who had defended himself from an alleged intruder.
Police say that, around 9 o’clock that evening, the 59-year-old suspect forced his way into the house and assaulted the 27-year-old resident inside. The resident was armed and told officers he feared for his life, so he fired at his assailant, striking the attacker once in the stomach. First responders found the man collapsed just a few feet outside the front door of the house, and despite attempts to save his life, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police told reporters that the shooting was deemed to be self-defense, and the homeowner was released from custody. (KEN5 News; San Antonio, Texas; 3/27/24)

Three bandits entered the Chicago, Ill., grocery store of Mrs. Alberta Lathon and demanded money. When she produced the cash, one of the thugs slugged her. As the robbers turned to flee, Mrs. Lathon grabbed a pistol and fired one shot, critically wounding one of the bandits. (Chicago Sun Times)
