A 38-year-old man is dead after breaking into a Muskegon, Mich., residence and assaulting a tenant before the property’s owner defended themselves by opening fire on the intruder.
Police say the incident occurred at about 2 a.m. on Monday, March 15. An initial caller told dispatchers that an apparently intoxicated man was banging on the window of an apartment that adjoined the house. Immediately after this, the 38-year-old suspect broke into the apartment and assaulted the tenant inside. After this, the man left the apartment and then attempted to break into the connecting home when the homeowner fired, killing the intruder.
Local reports indicated that a man, his girlfriend and two kids were inside the home when the alleged intrusion occurred. (Wood TV 8; Egelston Township, Mich.; 3/15/24)

After repeated burglaries at his Pleasant Grove, Texas, used-goods store, owner Ernest Graf and his 15-year-old son started sleeping in the office. One night, awakened by noises on the roof, Graf armed himself with his shotgun and waited. When the would-be burglar was halfway down a rope he had secured to the skylight, Graf switched on the lights and held him at bay while his son called police.
