A shoplifting incident in Greenfield, Mo., escalated into a home-defense situation, leading to the death of the suspect on April 12, 2024.
Police say the suspect, who was armed, was at a store, when he was accused of shoplifting and had been approached by a store manager. As the employee approached the alleged thief, the suspect ran from the shop, crossed a street and ran into a home on the other side. Inside, the man encountered a homeowner who was also armed.
The two exchanged gunshots, and the intruder died from his wounds. The homeowner was hospitalized with injuries. (KY3 News; Greenfield, Mo.; 4/18/24)

An armed man approached the window of Henry Hilliard’s Savannah, Ga., take-out restaurant and told the owner to give him money or he would be shot. Hilliard turned around and told an employee to get the cash. At the same time, he pulled his gun, then turned back and shot at the robber, who fled. (The Savannah News-Press, Savannah, Ga.)
